Why is my internet so much slower?

Ok so i have a laptop and use wireless. At my home the internet is fast and works great, but now at my parents house, videos and photos take forever to load. The signal quality here is "excellent" just like at home, so what's the difference?

For running slow there are many causes:

Microsoft Registry Problems = Slow Computer!

Spyware/Adware

RAM

De-Fragmenting

Etc.

Below can help you speed up your pc:

For IE, click Tools, Internet Options delete files (offline files) clear history (set days to save to 0 if you want) click o.k., and Restart

For Firfox, press ctrl+shift+del, and click clean private data.

Manage your startup:

Open your Start menu -> Click Run -> In the command screen type "msconfig.exe" -> In the "system configuration utility", click either "service" or "startup" tab -> Uncheck all programs that your are no longer using.

De-Fragmenting

1. Right click of C Disk.

2. Click properties.

3. Click tools tab.

4. Click "Defragment now".

5. Click Defragment.

You can search which process full use you cpu, and end the process.

Under steps:

1. right click on the TaskBar.

2. click the Task Manager.

3. click the processes tab.

4. double click the CPU.

5. find if the "System Idle Process" is max.

6. if not right click and click end process.

There is so much things to take into consideration when looking to find what's wrong with a internet connection, but I'm going to list a few to get you going:

* Internet package: How much are you paying vs your parents. All providers offer different internet speed connection. If you have the top of the top and you parents the basic package, search no more.

* SPAM/Viruses, etc: If your parents have a lot of spywares running on their computer they might use up a lot of internet speed.

* Location, location location: Some area are better served by the internet provider because there is a lot of businesses around or you're in the city. If your parent are living far from a mid-size/large city, the internet speed can be affected.

Cybergoon

The signal strength only measures from your laptop to their wireless connection. But it could be a number of reasons:

1. Maybe they have a slower plan for DSL up.

2. If DSL, maybe they live farther away from their central office of the phone company. Speed degrades after so many feet.

3. You have Cable and your parent have DSL? Cable is usually faster.

4. Less likely, you have your router running at a higher speed (G) they have theirs running at a lower speed (B).

5. Their router may not be configured the same as yours. Maybe your router has a "boost" feature to download large files at a faster rate.

6. Little brother is downstairs in his room downloading porn??? Ok, I'm just guessing here.

the signal qulaity is good.so that means either the internet at your parents place have slow speed( for example your wifi may be more than ! mpbs,but your parents maybe something less) or there maybe good number of users(neighborhood)_ logged into the wifi in your parents place

Just open the internet explorer or firefox and go to http://www.speedtest.net/ check your parents wifi speed.

note:when you are running the test, make sure you don't use or run any application that needs internet.Click the yellow pyramid which is the recommended.otherwise, select the pyramid nearest to that place
