It depends on what type of hair u have? Wavy, thin, any flat iron with a 20 degree could do it,but if is real curly like mines than u need a good ceramic flat iron that could go up to at least 30 degrees. I have ARGAN HEAT ceramic and this is the best one I have ever had. I wash my hair every other day. And once I flat iron my hair I don't ever have to go back and re touch that's how long it last.,my cousin tryed it only once and a few days I took her to get one because she loved it she even had her hair flat for a whole week! I know is crazy but it works they are around $40 or $50 at Sallys and they have 1/4 inch and 1"inch it will be even cheaper if you have their credit account.
Try getting a mini flat iron, they're usually cheaper. Or else try getting one off eBay. Whatever you do, don't get conair, it ruins your hair FAST. And it helps to research the brand or iron you are interested in, and looking at reviews. Ceramic is the best type, it's plastic instead of metal so it won't give you split ends. I have titanium plates and it does give me some split ends, but I don't straighten my hair much anymore. And everyone will probably tell you that Chi is really good. It works really well for about 2-4 years, but ive heard they often just stop working after that. You should definitely research the iron before buying it!!!
if you want a good flat iron you should get a professional one, for better results. I recommend you a very good flat iron, it's the Karmin Professional Titanium Flat Iron, with ceramic heat, ionic technology combined with smooth titanium plate surfaces, won't damage hair like other straighteners, negative ions and infrared heat (removes static) and leaves hair silky and shiny, variable temperature settings for all hair types, it heats up really quick up to 410f for long lasting straightness. You can check it out at http://www.myhairstylingtools.com/Karmin-Titanium-... Hope it helped.
I recommend you a great flat iron that keeps the hair soft, shiny and very straight, it's the Karmin G3 Salon Pro, it heats up to 460f with temperature control, dual voltage, tourmaline ceramic plates with rounded edges which makes it great for also curling your hair. You can check it out at http://hairproductspro.com/ or if you are in Canada at http://www.rylees.ca/ . Or check out the reviews at http://flatironsreviews.com/ . It works pretty good with any type of hair. I hope this helps and good luck. :D
