All depends on ur personal interests really. Some Caribbean islands offer different packages. For instance if u are a nature lover no island is better than Dominica(not to be mistaken with the Dominican Republic).
If you are looking for something a little more fast paced and with greta nightlife then the other more touristy areas are best for that.
It's a a melting pot of cultures and that makes it a quite interesting place to visit. The island has a lot of activities for the adventure seeker or if you want to just relax on the beach you can do that too. The climate is always right. You can find a variety of accommodation on the island, from small chic boutique hotels, to private villas to all inclusive resorts (pay once and enjoy the rest of your vacation).
Jamaica has a rich historical background. Evidence of our early settlers to the battles among the Spanish and British for the ownership of the island can be see can be seen at various locations on the island and oh the tales of pirates and witches will intrigue you. Our cuisine is eclectic as its a fusion of the various ethnic groups that are found on the island, Asian, Continental Europe, African etc. not to mention our very own jerk!

First of all... LOOK at that list of island countries on the right or left side of the travel home page... and then.. AVOID ANY PLACE ON THAT LIST because that is were all the AmeriKans go.. and they are not the best places in the Caribbean.
When this question gets asked on here, almost always the AmeriKans will say Dominican Republic or Jamaica (the worst island in the caribbean as far as I'm concerned) or the U.S. Virgin Islands.. because most of the people on here have NEVER BEEN OUTSIDE THE STATE WHERE THEY WERE BORN... these people are not world travelers... and they just parrot what the see advertised on TV... Jamaica, Puerto Rico, the Virgin Island and, lately, Barbados.. but THEY HAVE NEVER BEEN TO THE CARIBBEAN
My boat, where I spend 7 months each year, is in ANTIGUA and my second favorite island is BEQUIA and NEITHER ONE is on that list of Caribbean islands that Yahoo shows.
Definitely the US Virgin Islands! We've been there a few times and its so relaxing. There's great shopping, dining and scenery. Most people there speak English so you won't have to worry about translation problems. And because its owned by the US you'll feel a little bit safer and relaxed! We've been on cruises to other countries in the Caribbean and we've found that the USVI are the most enjoyable!(afterall, Kenny Chesney sings about them ;)
I think its also cheaper as well. Wherever you choose to go have a great time and enjoy the warm weather!!

It depends what your looking for. Family Vacation? Beach Alone? Culture Entirely? Food Alone?
..and to the guy who said Jamaica is the worst country, and what AmeriKans say is not real etc...u have issues.
St. John U.S. Virgin Islands. I haven't been there since the 80's. Would definitely go back!
Firstly, what do you mean by "best" ? Each person will have their own preferences, so what is best for one isn't necessarily for another.
My vote - Cuba - it's so much more than just beaches - music, culture, mountains.
ANtigua in my opinion
Haiti, it is cheap there and they will give you many advantages if you are American.
