Hurricane Hugo (it was a hurricane that hit the coast of my home state, South Carolina, when I was very young and pretty much destroyed our favorite family vacation spot)
And Henry Wallace. When I was in middle school, we lived in Charlotte, North Carolina. Henry Wallace was a serial killer who was murdering his ex girlfriends and coworkers. He killed a woman that lived in my apartment complex. The night he killed her, my friend and I were walking back to our apartments from the pool. I remember that night, my mom went ballistic on me for walking around after dark. Then, when we found out about the murder and his capture....my brother said "Henry killed her? He used to come play football with us." Pretty creepy stuff, huh?
When I was young and living in Chicago, I remember hearing about the 8 student nurses that were murdered in their home. I was very scared and it was one of the first time I realized that humans killed each other for no good reason.
The second was when they landed on the moon. It was so incredible to me.
I remember when John F Kennedy was killed I was at a Catholic school in Chicago and the nuns had us pray by our desks. My parents watched the funeral on television and I remember they were very sad.
