i want to do custom piping on my 02 oz rally. i have a friend in my auto class who can hook me up with a welder. i was thinking of doing 3" piping all the way. what will i need? just straight pipes and u&j pipes? im not keeping the res in and i dont know about the cats if i want to keep them or not yet, i probobly will keep them. and any suggestions?
Update:jesus christ i know what exhaust's do i go to school for automotive and we don't do welding or anything like that id rather do custom piping than buy a whole new system. i just wanted suggestions and things i will need, i didnt ask for criticism or your input on the consequences.

Don't do 3" piping you'll lose back pressure. Go 2.5 inch. You'll need a pipe bender to correctly install it. Just go to a professional exhaust shop they will take care of it
Theres alot to an exhaust system. If i were you id study the heck out of exhaust systems that you would wanna put on. Uses stainless steel, and have a pro do the pipe bending. Put all components from old exhaust onto new. Cats will be more efficent the closer to the exhaust headers. Depending on what kinda car you have you need to keep them where theyre at.your cats may have electric heater so put them same place on new otherwise you could overheat the cat. This is bigger project then you think, do your research
the size & length of the pipe affect engine performance considerably. Going oversize on pipe diameter will usually actually cost you performance. Likewise removing muffler & cat will reduce back pressure & require rejetting the carby or alterations to the fuel injection system if fitted if you dont want to burn valves
