Do I really need to sand the old paint off before I start or can I just wash the walls and put fresh paint over the old paint? Kinda on a time limit cause it's for my boss's house and I still need to take care of other things. Anything that cut down my time on painting will help.
Update:The walls in the kitchen are white and I haven't gotten any details on if they want to keep it the same color or change it. But not having to sand it will cut down the time I need to do it than. For those who responded thanks for the info.

No, no sanding it's needed, just wash wall with sugar soap, let it dry and start painting.
If the walls' colour is very dark, and the paint's light, you'll need a primer or just do more than 1 coat of paint.
No, if the paint that is on the walls now is not peeling off, you don't need to scrape or sand it off. You can wash the walls, if you feel they are dirty, but you're going to need to wait until they dry before applying the new paint. Or you can just wipe the walls with a dry cloth, if it is just a dust issue.
