My husband join the army and is leaving to boot camp this September. I m not to familiar with the benefits we get.?
I am a student I am going to a community college. My question is can I get help to pay a baby sitter or a child care, and what are the steps to get help?
You get diddly. He gets paid a salary and a couple of allowances. What the two of you decide to do with that income is your problem to figure out.
Waiting lists for on base child care can be very long and priority goes to single parents and dual military, followed by both parents working. As a student you would be in the last category eligible. Furthermore you can not even get on the list unless he is at his permanent duty station. Assuming you are actually permitted to join him. He goes to Korea, he goes alone.
No the military does not pay for child care at all. You will need to use his pay for it.
To enter you and the child into DEERS he will need both original birth certificates, your marriage certificate and a copy of the SSN cards. Around week 4 you will get paperwork with info and the form to get your military ID card.
The first pay will not be in your joint account until mid October at the earliest and he will have a deduction of up to $300 for necessities he has to purchase. It is backdated to the day he started. The next pay (about 45 days after he left) should include BAH (housing allowance) as well.
There are benefits for the spouse of enlisted personnel. Your husband's recruiter should have explained all that before he signed up. Go to the recruitment office and ask for the information.
No. He gets base pay, a food allotment if he is off base (basic training is on base in the barracks.) And a housing allowance for his dependent. You can use base child care.
