The beaches are nice sandy, because of building the Palm Islands the sea water can be sandy too. But don't forget it will be very hot in July:

You don't need to wear special clothes, western or as a tourist is fine.
See the home delivery menu's, just add 10% service charge when eating in the restaurant:

I like the restaurants here. There are many places and also many different prices. You can eat out very expensive at the hotels and very cheap in Deira / Bur Dubai. Not cheap but low price compared to restaurants are the food courts in the shopping malls.
Hi Rachel. Everyone here has given you many links. You will love Dubai.
Have you deceided where you are going to stay... All the hotels along Jumeriah Beach have great beaches the sea if like a bath this time of the year. Eating in the hotels is not as expensive as you think, but avoid wine as that is expensive, but beers and spirits are no more expensive than any UK city. As for dress , on the beach by the pool your Bikini is fine. Just be sensible when out and about. Also beware the sun is Very HOT in July.....
Now can I come with you? I will be your guide.
Dubai has several cultural shows as well as all of the glamorous contemporary add-ons and with Hotelbye you will know more about that city. In the Bastakia area you'll discover the old Dubai but the absolute most stunning locations that Dubai is offering may be the Burj Khalifa, the world's highest making and shopping centers that come complete with mammoth aquariums and indoor snow slopes. The Burj Al-Arab certainly is the place you wish to stay. That lodge may be the world's highest hotel with 321 m high and is located by itself synthetic area on the Dubai coastline. Built to resemble a billowing dhow travel, the surface of the Burj Al-Arab is lit up with a choreographed colored light show at night. Decadent in every way probable, it is one of the most costly lodges in the world but is unquestionably worth it.
its like a better mumbai - clean with good and big roads but where there is no rain and out of hte city, you feel u r in a desert. beaches are clean, no food stalls like in mumbai. restaurants of different cuisines available here from across the globe. it is an expensive place no doubt.... in a decent restaurant for 2 people will cost not more than 50-60 dirhams (i m not talking about the 5 stars ok). Food is not very expensive in dubai. you dont need to cover up thats only in Saudi Arabia ... dubai is very liberal and open. No worries. It also is quiet safe. Dubai is a city of malls......... huge and so many of them .... its a shopping heaven.
have a nice trip to dubai. but july is a bad time to come here. Its extremely hot. 45 degree centi. from nov to feb/mar is hte best time to come ..... climate is good and u can participate in lot of outdoor activities like desert safari and dhow cruises and sheesha joints in open air, wonder bus, big bus.... etc.....
Dubai is very smart, very modern and very upmarket. Prices are pretty similar to UK maybe slightly cheaper. All the best restaurants are attached to and part of hotels. they have to be 4* or above to have a licence to serve alcohol. Whilst on beach bikinis are ok skimpy clubbing gear on the streets would be frowned upon. No need to completely cover up but be sensible is best. Very quiet and safe and plenty of nightlife, again in clubs and bars attached to hotels. Beach hotels all have their own private beaches for guest use only.
