I suggest going to your obgyn and getting a test there. I took a home test at 3.5 weeks and it came out with a faint blue line and I cldnt tell so to be sure I went and took theirs and though it came out faint also it was more obvious and I felt better for the doctor to confirm it.
No missing your period is not a sure sign but its a pretty reliable one. I took a $1 test and got a BFP when I was only 3 weeks. Women are all diffrent though as my mother in law didn't get a positive until she was 5 weeks. If your period is usually normal and you are not under any stress then I would wait for 1 week after your missed day and then the answer on the test should be pretty reliable.
if you missed your period already, the tests are supposed to come out positive if you're pregnant. but every pregnancy is different. some women have to get a blood pregnancy test because of the lack of HCG in their urine. and some women have to get an ultrasound because a blood and urine pregnancy test were incorrect. missing your period isn't a sure sign of pregnancy. but it's definitely important. there are a number of things that can make a girl miss their period or have it come late, and stressing about conceiving is definitely at the top of the list.
oh, and a good tip for HPT's is to pee in a cup and hold the stick in the cup for 5 seconds. any longer can cause a false negative. and peeing on the HPT for too long can also cause a false negative.
If you have missed your period, you can carry out your testing anytime between 3rd to 7 days after missing your REGULAR PERIOD. However, in the early phase, you MUST USE THE FIRST PASSED URINE upon waking from good 5 to 8 hours of bed rest.
The important facts, I have typed in capital letters.
