The only ones that get to stay in Heaven are the ones who have accepted the free gift of salvation from Jesus. He died to make that gift possible. All of those who rejected the free gift of salvation will only be in Heaven long enough to be judged and tossed into the lake of fire.
It appears to be you, not God (or Christians) who are doing the misleading.
Everyone does NOT go to Heaven. Only those who realize that they are sinners and repent and believe that Jesus died to give us a way into Heaven. God is not misleading us in any way. You can also NOT lose your salvation once you have TRULY believed and accepted in Him. Many people think if you kill or something that you will instead go to hell. Its not true: if you were saved but you have become backslidden and you commit sins, you will still go to Heaven, you will just have to answer to God DIRECTLY for the sins you have not repented and asked for forgiveness of. even if you have killed before you got saved, if you TRULY believed on Him, you will still go to Heaven when you die. Everyone sins, saved and unsaved and everyone will continue to sin - it is human nature and no matter how "good" you try to be, we were all born with sinful human nature. God knows this and that is why he is a forgiving God. You will still go to Heaven, you will just have to answer for the sins you do not ask for forgiveness for.
Christianity does not teach that all go to heaven.
It teaches that Jesus came from heaven to Earth to become "the Lamb of God that takes away the sin of the world" (John 1:29) and that's why He died and was resurrected. The transaction means that, legally, from God's point of view, nobody needs to remain condemned due to their sin. God calls on all to accept this free gift of grace. But not everyone will! And God knew that in advance. "Many are called but few are chosen".
Nevertheless, God has done, in Christ, everything necessary to prevent anyone going to hell, if they but call on the name of Jesus in faith - they will be saved. Atheists won't do that, of course. Neither will those who think Jesus was nothing more than a good man, or prophet. You have to realise just who Jesus is to put faith in what He did to save you from your sins. As He said to disbelievers in His day, "I am from above. You are of this world; I am not of this world. I told you that you would die in your sins; if you do not believe that I am the one I claim to be, you will indeed die in your sins." 'Who are you?' they asked... "Before Abraham was born, I am!" (John chapter 8).
All those who do not believe Jesus to be the I Am, will die in their sins and be judged by God accordingly. They will not go to heaven. The Bible is perfectly clear about that.
I don't believe everyone is going to heaven because the bible says the earth was made to be inhabited so it would make sense for everyone to leave the earth. Then jehovah gods purpose for the earth would not be fulfilled and he cannot lie. Jesus death was so that we have a chance to live forever on a paradise earth.

<<If you believe all goes to heaven, why did Jesus die?>>
Jesus died so that everyone has the opportunity to freely choose to go to Heaven.
<<and would god not be misleading us?>>
"Mis"leading us to Heaven, how exactly?

Not all will. He died that all might.
