I was contacted by an employer and they asked me for a salary range and I gave them a range and they responded now and said "the job is not within the range you want" meaning it is less. So, I still want the job and want to send back an e-mail saying, fine I will settle for less.
how can I say that without sounding desperate...I'm a recent grad and I am desperate for a job.

Say, I went over the benefits.
You offer excellent health insurance, vision, dental, and great 401K plan.
Also, the company is exactly what I am looking for with an opportunity for me work hard and grow. The location is convenient...
All these benefits "wash" the previous salary I was asking for after calculating the numbers
If you have a phone number, call - that way it is a bit more personal and you aren't sitting there going back and forth via e-mail. I would call and say that you got the e-mail, you understand that their pay range is below what your asking rang4 was, but that maybe you can come to an agreement if they are still interested (remember that they might be politely telling you that you were considered and rejected and they chose someone else).
