Same thing as any other wood. If you refinished wood before your fine. Strip, sand, [repair cracks or chips if necessary], stain, let dry, done.
Be happy, you can finish the stock just like you finish any other fine piece of furniture. First of all, you want to sand the entire gun down and remove the current finish. If there are any dents, I hear that you can steam those to bring them out (I have never done this, but assume you can find details online). You want to correct any scratches or if the grip is incorrect for you at this time. Once the sanding is done, and you are down to bare wood. You want to apply a good stain. Make sure you like the color you are going for, it will not be easy to correct if you change your mind. Don't use the "all in one stain and poly finishes" as these simply sit on top of the wood and do not penetrate. While this might seem easier, if you chip the finish, you see bare wood underneath. One the stain has dried. Make sure it is dark enough for you. If it seems a bit too light, you can apply more stain, but be careful of this. Let it dry and then apply a coat of good polyurethane. Let it dry well, and sand it all down with a very fine sandpaper. Repeat the finish/sand process until the finish is deep enough for your standards. Some people use many coats, and this will make your wood look like glass. After the final coat has dried, use the finest sandpaper you can find (maybe 3200) and sand it all down one last time. Then polish it with some rubbing compound, then polish it with a good wax. If all works out correctly, it will be deep, dark, and dazzling.
dont cut the stock to thin
