Some asians have hair like this, I have seen it. It is usually attributed to some other kind of blood in the family. (For example, a european visiting Asia, or some other visitor a long time ago)
My best friend is from Korea, and he seriously has an afro :D It's just the way he was built. Hair is a living thing with a biological structure and biological structures dont always match there backgrounds. And it could depend from what part of Asia you are from, because that mixes things up a bit too. Also when you look at the cross section of asian hair, its round and thick that makes thier hair thick and straight. wavy hair, the cross-section is oval, which makes curly wavy hair. and then when the shape is REALLY oval/eliptical, it tends to coil more (like hair of Africans). So, more oval or elipital the shape is the more tendency to coil. Genes carry the codes for these characteristics in the bio-structure of the hair, yours is just different.
And I have been to Japan and China, and honestly you are not the only one i have seen with curly or wavy hair, I guess straight hair is kind of a stereotype, a mostly true stereotype, which makes sense why in Japan the Japanese straightneing method and all these other things are coming out for the people there to have straighter hair.
PS I think wavy hair on asian people is prettyyyy cool, if that helps :D
People have going from continent to continent ever sailing ships were invented. Some as soldiers, some were shanghaied and made to work as sailors, Some were slaves, etc. Some of these people escaped, just missed the boat when it sailed. Sometimes the boat sank and they were rescued. There is a lot of reasons someone from another race could be accepted and assimilated into your race. Some of these characteristics don't show up for several generations. A woman who got pg from one of these people sure wouldn't admit it, would they. There is a simple way to say this, but it isn't politically correct. because if I used the n word. I would be kicked off answers for ever.
It's just in your genes really. Your hair colour and qualities were passed on through your parents. There will probably be someone in your family who also has wavy hair :)
