I just got a new female boston terrier, I want to enroll her into flyball classes when shes old enough, how do I start her off wanting to chase or have intrest in the ball. How do I get her to have a ball drive, she is only 8wks old is there anything I can do in the mean time to get her ready, I think me and her will love this sport. Anyone have any tips?

Start playing ball with her TODAY. Teach her to retrieve. Make ball her special game with you. Play several times a day. Don't leave balls laying around. Her ball only comes out when you are going to play with her. Also teach her to tug with you. Tugging is huge in Fly Ball. It's what the handlers use to drive the dog to do it's run & return immediately to the handler with the ball, so the next dog can be released. Start now using tug as a reward for training.
Right now, she's to young. What you need to concentrate on with your 8 week old puppy is:
Her name, housebreaking, basic manners, socialization. Once she has completed her vaccines, you should take her everywhere and let her meet lots of nice people and dogs.
Once she's older, your next step will be to find a local flyball team. If your in the U.S., North American Flyball Assoc, to find a team. Contact them. They will help train you and your dog in flyball.
Everything is broken down. The box and the turns are all taught seperately. Jumps are on the ground and are eventually raised to the height of the shortest dog on the team. Your dog has to learn how to run with another dog passing him. There's a lot to know, so I do not suggest you attempt to do this on your own.
First...mabe buy a special ball and fill it with a snack...then show the snacks to her and throw it. Repeat throw all the time and then she will get the hang of it.Keep with this at this early stage untilshe gets a little older.
