Not taken and put on literally like harry potter and twilight, but films that have been appropriated from books. Appropriation is keeping plot elements and changing context
Children of Men is dramatically different from the book and for the better I'd say. Also see the Bourne movies, and the movie 'A Knight's Tale' is very very loosely adapted from Chaucer...
The films The Vampire's Assistant was very loosely based on the first three books by Darren Shan (Cirque Du Freak, the Vampire's Assistant and Tunnels of Blood)
And I agree with the first person who answered. It is VERY difficult not to find a film based off a book.

These days it is difficult for me to find a film NOT appropriated from a book.
