I know when it comes to stretching, everyone always acts like they're so perfect & do everything by the book, but I'll be totally honest with you-a 12g is only 0.4mm larger than 14g. So while it certainly doesn't hurt to give yourself more time, chances are that since you feel pretty healed up, it's probably not going to be enough of a difference in size to really cause any damage. But don't force it-if it's actually painful, then it's not a good idea; I always described the feeling as more of a slight tingling discomfort that subsides pretty quickly. So if it seems too difficult or feels much more than that, just give it a few more weeks or so. But in all honesty, you'll most likely be ok. And if your plugs are to the point where you can kind of slide them around in your ears, most likely after a hot shower, they'll go in pretty easily.
You should be at 14g for 4-6 weeks before stretching to 12g. Stretching should never hurt, no pain is not an indication that your ears are ready to be stretched. Leave them alone.
A pretty good rule of thumb is to try sizing up slowly with a taper, and if it doesn't hurt, you're good. If it hurts, stop immediately and wait longer. But keep in mind that just because they feel healed doesn't mean they are, and one week is really fast.
