On my rental application I checked the box for criminal past, but did not put detail. The complex found out about past and evicted me. I was told 20 years ago, that after 10 years, I didn't have to put details, am I correct? or is there no such law. My offense was 22 years ago.

You have to answer the question as asked. If the question says "in the last x years have you...?" then you can say no if x is less than the time since your conviction or release from jail/prison. If the question asks "have you ever...?" then you need to answer yes.
You lied and were evicted for that. If they would not have rented to you based on the information they discovered they could sue you for fraud.
Had you answered yes and explained the situation they may have rented to you. if not you would have at least prevented an eviction that is now current and most likely in your credit report.

"You were told" does not mean anything to the landlord. If they want to know about your criminal history, you are obligated to tell them. If they find out afterwards that you lied on the app, you shall be evicted post haste.
22 years is a long time, but that arrest and conviction is still a matter of record.
The only option you have is to petition the court that convicted you to expunge that record.
