I'm a huge dragon ball fan, but I just don't understand why it had to end with GT. And I'm not talking a sequel like the stupid AF and super saiyan 5. I honestly think it got stupid after super saiyan 2! What I would like to see is more of a prequel that talks about the saiyan heritage and how they came to be. I mean it would be really interesting. It could also include a younger Bardock and Goku's mother because we never knew who she was. Fasha was just fan speculation. Also because it would be based before the events of Earth and Goku it wouldn't have any of the stupid filler episodes with Bulma and and Chi Chi. What do you think and why won't Akira Toriyama do this? I have so many questions like what is Frieza's race and why are they so evil and hungry for power. It wouldn't even have to be called dragon ball anything it could just be it's own separate series related to the dragon ball saga! What do you think?

HELL YESS!!
Fanboyism aside, Toriyama-sama is done with the series (mostly) so I wouldn't push the subject but one of the reasons I love DBZ is all the speculation it left behind it. For those who say DBZ is childish, just try to come up with a reasonable society for the Saiyans in their first and second planets and after Frieza's invasion. It's full of fascinating themes and breathtaking character/ plot development.
Many fans of the manga/ anime are stil speculating about Goku's and Vegeta's rich saiyan heritage and the saiyans life. You can see lots of theories in Daizenshuu, fanfictions and sites like About Saiyans. I think a prequel might reveal the darker side of DBZ but it takes a genius to answer some of the questions:
* Saiyan relationships and familial arrangements
* Saiyan Lifestyle
* Hierarchy and royal Family
* Moral code and culture
* Life under Frieza, Saiyan Army
So many interesting themes which really make think ( I love the happy go lucky fighting but where's the dark theory behind the major theme: Saiyans?!)
I really think it takes far too much work but there are some original works on the subject.
Consider Episode of Bardock a manga about Bardock's and his confrontation with Frieza (original take on the series special)

Akira Toriyama didn't put too much thought into the whole thing really so I guess it'll remain a very attractively inaccessible part of DBZ but I still enjoy collecting info and theories on the Saiyan's past.
It would be so f*cking cool though if there'll be a prequel so it's a total BUY for me.
I love how people STILL post a question about a new series every couple weeks, it shows how awesome DBZ is!!!
Because he is done with the subject, wrote everything he wanted to do with the series.
Recently there was a prequel/what if written by someone else with his permission I believe. It centers on Bardock but is only 3 chapters long. It's better than nothing. (that site says ongoing, but it isn't)

He's given up on doing more Dragon Ball related manga or anime, neither is Toei Animation doing more episodes of Dragon Ball.
I think that would be a brilliant idea! Origin of the saiyans...! And how abt a more detailed movie based on the life of future trunks..you know..the chaotic future and stuff?
I agree,I don't think anything after kid buu is killed is canonlogical. But I can't consider it that,but you don't have to think GT happened,because it has so many plotholes,and no manga counterpart. You don't have to consider anything that happened after z canonlogical. Personally, I like to think that after training Uub,he probaly revived Freeza and Seru(cell) as humans too,and trained them to be the next Z senchi.
Because he ended the series with the intent of moving on to other projects. He doesn't want to go back and work on it.
