A church is a place to worship the Divine - therefore any buildings they might have are not churches at all, but if they insist on referring to them as such, then I guess we'll all just have to to the politically INcorrect thing and ask them to please grow up. If they want to be atheists or agnostics, most sane people have no problem with that - but if they say that agnosticism and atheism are "religions," then intelligent people of good sense are going to have to say, "No they're not" ...

Whatever you are talking about isn't a church since, as you point out, there is no worship occurring there.
For the same reason why Christianity has a brutal, violent, hateful, controlling and intolerant history.
