Tang Soo Do is one of the Kwans that was used to form Modern WTF and ITF styles of Taekwondo.
Tang Soo Do is what several of the founders of the Kwans wanted to call what became Taekwondo.
Tang Soo Do translates to "China Hand Way", which reflects the strong influence of Shotokan Karate. This influence is also reflected in the original Hyung that were used, that came straight from the Shotokan Kata
Hwang Kee is credited with founding it. Wan Kuk Lee, the founder of Chung Do Kwan was also a co-founder of Tang Soo Do. Both Hwang Kee and Wan Kuk Lee were students and Black belts under Gichin Funakoshi, the founder of Shotokan Ryu Karate. In many cases it will resemble Shotokan Karate as much as it does Modern Taekwondo. It will have a greater emphasis on kicking especially high kicks than Shotokan.
That depends on the style of Taekwondo you're talking about, and one could argue that Tang Soo Do itself is a style of Taekwondo.
There are quite a number of differences between Taekwondo styles, but mostly in theory and principle. That's primarily what you're going to be looking at - how the techniques are utilized, not the techniques themselves... for the most part anyway.
both have a belt system (but typically very different belts)
both spar with emphasis on kick
both have forms (but the forms are very different)
both can trace their lineage to a single person
...but after this, you need to be more specific about what you mean by "taekwondo", which can refer to ITF, or WTF, or even ATA. And you need to be specific about what you mean by "tangsoodo", of which there are a few main schools like Tang Soo Do Mu Duk Kwan (I think now called "Su Bak Do Mu Duk Kwan"), and that which is taught by World Tang Soo Do Assn, and that which is taught by Int'l Tang Soo Do Federation (the latter two just call their style "Tang Soo Do").
But, Tang Soo Do Mu Duk Kwan has a tendency to be more fluid - getting influence from Chinese styles. That fluidity would be more similar to WTF taekwondo, although the styles are very different from each other.
I have no first hand knowledge of the other styles of tangsoodo, only to say that they teach that their styles have been around longer than taekwondo and are heavily influenced by Korean and Okinawan styles. If this is true, that would make them more similar to ITF taekwondo. Other than their forms, these two would probably be similar.
