It was supposed to be a grass-roots movement of ordinary citizens opposed to what was going on in Washington. It wasn't intended to be the arm of one particular party. Now it has corporate funding, wealthy people running it, wealthy people promoting it (Hannity, Limbaugh, Armey, Beck, Palin, etc.), a powerful conservative network as a messageboard, and Republican politicians embracing it as another vehicle to regain power.
I'm still angry at BOTH parties and that's why I embraced the movement at the beginning. This was going to be the best chance to form a third party we've had in my lifetime. Now it's been hijacked by the Republicans and morphed into their party.
Is there any hope for the independents that want things to change in Washington?
Update:Smurf, you are correct. It was formed from the ideals of the Libertarian Party, which is more centrist than the Republican party, at least in its social aspects.

It wasn't to form a third party, it was formed from a third party!! It was Libertarian in intent, then neo-cons saw it as an opportunity. I'm disappointed too.
The Tea Party is basically a Conservative movement, not a new party. They would only end up with Obama again if they run 3rd party candidates.
The Republicans are incapable of a truly grassroots movement because they need to be told what to do.
They are not used to thinking for themselves, therefore the "think tanks" will end up intercepting and correcting any variation from the "master plan", which is to keep their voting base focused on doing what is best for the wealthy.
The Tea Party isnt a political party.
They been dead for centuries. They havent been here since the 1700s in Boston.
Tea Party is a joke and everyone knows it
Who are they supposed to be against? Conservatives and Independents sure as hell aren't gonna approve of the party (Democrats) that won't listen to them.
Independents will never get more than 10% of the vote...quit the foolish pipe dream and just pick the lesser of two evils
