I want to slow cook a whole chicken but don't know what ingredients to use. I'd like to try something different and full of flavor. Any suggestions?
Update:This is the recipe i used.
Ingredients
4 teaspoons salt
2 teaspoons paprika
1 teaspoon cayenne pepper
1 teaspoon onion powder
1 teaspoon thyme
1 teaspoon white pepper
1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
1/2 teaspoon black pepper
1 large roasting chicken (with pop-up timer if possible)
1 cup onion, chopped (optional)
Directions
1In a small bowl, combine the spices.
2Remove any giblets from chicken and clean chicken.
3Rub spice mixture onto the chicken.
4Place in resealable plastic bag and refrigerate overnight. (I usually skip this step because I'm always in a hurry).
5When ready to cook, put chopped onion in bottom of crock pot.
6Add chicken. No liquid is needed, the chicken will make it's own juices.
7Cook on low 4-8 hours.
8Note: I highly recommend a pop-up timer in the chicken because some crock pots cook faster/slower than others (my crock pot cooks this recipe in 4-5 hours).
I stuffed the chicken with dirty rice and it was really good.

First, preheat oven to 275 degrees. In a roasting pan with a lid, [foil will work as a lid] place the fresh [or thawed out] chicken in with back side down. Add 1/2 cup of tap water to pan.
Drizzle 1/4 cup of well mixed bottled Italian Dressing over the chicken.
Sprinkle 1/2 small finely chopped onion over and around chicken.
Sprinkle lightly with Paprika.
Cover with lid, [or loosely cover with foil, making sure to tuck in edges of foil], and bake in 275 degree for 1-1/2 hours.
Take lid off and return to oven for 1/2 hour more. [To make skin brown & crispy]
Turn off oven at the end of that 1/2 hour and leave chicken in oven for 30 more minutes.
Serve this tasty bird with mashed potatoes and corn, and you'll have good old fashion low & slow cooked chicken dinner. The meat will be falling off the bone.
You can add whatever spices you would like, but be careful not to use a lot, the Dressing has plenty of spices.
Enjoy.
