my last question of the night: name me some singers/bands that...?
don't do what is popular and just try to make good music.
Like this band (Doves) I found on last.fm. They sound very mellow and fun, also catchy and maybe melodic without being trendy and overly-sexual to sell records. They just seem like they are a talented pop-rock band trying to make it.

Help. I want real bands or singers that aren't Rihanna or Beyonce or Souljah Boy. No offense to people who like them. I like Ri and B too, but I'm tired of mainstream music that is of little substance. That's all I have on my iPod.

It is day here on the other side of the World and I like good music where I can understand what the person is singing. I detest rap music as they do appear to sing just say unintelligible words (or at least I think they are words) Apart from that most music is OK

the unicorns, they broke up though. of montreal is probably the most known band like this. the shins. hot chip. fleet foxes. human highway (my favorite is the sound). animal collective. elliott smith. neutral milk hotel. sufjan stevens.
