My husband is a current USMC recruiter and I am an high school teacher who has recruiters in my classroom speaking to my juniors every year.
First of all, you must be 17 and obtain parental consent to enlist. If you enlist at 17, which would be the end of your junior year, you would enlist into the DEP (Delayed Entry Program) which you can stay in for up to one year. If you do it this way, you would be ready to leave for recruit training shortly after graduating high school.
The military will ALWAYS be recruiting so you do not need to worry about that.
Being in JROTC will benefit you because you can go in at a higher rank. Cross country is good for you because the Corps does a lot of long distance running, and endurance is a must.
You sound like you know what you want to do, make sure you keep your eyes on the prize. If you school offers the ASVAB, take it. If you score well, those are your scores that the recruiters pull when enlisting you.
Stay out of trouble, stay in shape, stay motivated.
Good luck to you!
I'm not a recruiter. And really I don't think this is the place to find one.
You still have a few years before recruiters are allowed to even talk to you so don't be in too much of a rush.
You need to finish high school first of all, so just go ahead and stick it out through senior year and get your diploma.
If you really feel like you need to talk to a recruiter NOW you're better off calling your local one and discussing it with them.
Keep up on your grades and sports and just be patient. You've got a lot of time to decide what you're doing with your life.
Sorry that I'm not a Marine or recruiter- But best of luck to you no matter what you do.
You know you need to finish your senior year and graduate highschool
