i really want to dye my hair red velvet cupcake color like Cat from Victorious. i was looking for a semi permenant hair dye. i found a similar one called pillar box red. i think it could be the same. i was wondering if it would work on my hair. I'm naturally brunette I'm a light brown. when i asked a woman in the hair dressers about a color i liked she said my hair wouldn't grab the color as well. she said it wouldn't be as vibrant . does anyone have any suggestions please help. I'm 15 by the way. thanks :)

your hair is brown and you're trying to dye it a lighter color. bleach it til your hair is lighter than the red and then dye.
I knew right away you would say Cat from Victorious . Let me tell u, in an interview even SHE said herself when the show is over she's going back to brown, because red is really weird.
It makes people look down on you and think your younger than you really are when you have such a bright red, unnatural color. Even she herself doesn't like it. Trust me in pics it looks good in real life not so much. Plus she's lucky she can even pull it off.
BUT if u have to know so badly.. she uses Manic Panic - Rock N Roll Red.
Edit: By the way, she said first she bleached it and then used the dye, and she has to dye it every other week, so good luck with that . Plus she said it made her hair really dry until they used natural ingredient bleaching.. which is obviously super expensive yet she's famous so she can afford anything :p
My hair was pillarbox red until recently (poppy red with blue in now)..it sounds like a simalar dye to the one i used (semi permanent) My hair is mid-dark brown, I had to bleach mine before I put the red on. I didn't bleach it to blonde, just until it was a weird orange colour (looked very strange), but it ensured the hair was light enough in colour, but also porous enough to grab the colour. If you were to put it directly over your brown locks, it would look nice, but not vivid red. I have to re-do the colour (but not the bleach) every few weeks to keep the colour looking vibrant as it washes out pretty quick. But as its a conditioning colour it doesn't wreck your hair anymore. Do note that you will have to re-do your roots every so often, but depending on your style, you could get away with just adding more red so the roots will just be a darker shade.
You don't news to bleach your hair, just use Loreal Excellence HiColor HiLights For Dark Hair! (: If you want it like red velvet, I would recommend getting it in the color magenta, and use a 30 volume developer. You can get these both for $12 at Sally's Beauty Supply.
Have fun! (:
