It's corrosion. You can typically clean it off and the battery will keep on going, but it may mean that your battery is getting old and will need replacement soon. Make sure you get some dielectric grease to protect the terminal and connectors from further corrosion once you can it off.
It's corrosion at the terminal. If you want your battery to perform better, just clean the terminal post with a steel brush.. Ensure you remove both terminal connectors. Another trick to clean off the carrion is a teaspoon of baking soda mixed with water, then ensure that all corrosion is removed. Rinse the connectors with fresh clean water and dry terminals prior hooking them back to the battery terminal post. Another ppquick trick is just use any soda pop .
acid corrosion clean with baking soda, disconnect, lift off the terminal cap, scrub the battery posts ,and cable clamps with a wire brush
reconnect them.
also check the battery for water level, fill with distilled water.
another thing, maybe check cylinder head spark plug wires, insufficient spark may have caused carbon corrosion there too, pull the caps,of carbon/dirtied up clean with pumice & screwdriver tip wrapped in clean rag twirl it inside what should be copper in the caps, and spark plugs visible to the eyeball
It means you need to remove the battery cables and clean the battery and the clamps. I use brake cleaner and then a battery brush tool to clean the battery posts and inside the battery clamps. Baking soda and water work too. That white powder is dry acid so don't get it in your eyes, on your clothes, or on your skin..
Sulfuric Battery Corrosion. If you find that your vehicles battery has a buildup of blue, bluish-white, white, yellow or yellow-white powder around the terminals, posts or cell tops, what you have is corrosion from the reaction of the sulfate in the battery with the lead in the terminal posts.

mix some baking soda into a glass of water. Slowly pour over battery terminal. Then rinse with water.
It means you pour hot water over it, dry it off and cover with Vaseline.

Simply, but safely, clean it off.
it doesn't "mean" anything.
