I cannot identify a scent!?
I can't smell, honestly. I cannot identify the smell of a fart or a fried chicken or whatever! Well unless it's a very strong smell like that of the ocean. Obviously it is abnormal, but is there any certain name for this disorder? And any suggestions on "curing" it?
Update:Hey Patti, thanks for sharing. Well, I actually realized it when I was like 7. My sister told me she smelled spaghetti and I thought she was just making it up, and when we went inside there was indeed spaghetti on the table. I even thought my mother taught her how to smell.

They say people who have lost their sense of smell have a brain tumor. But I don't believe that because I've known several people who have had the disorder. One was young, if a building caught on fire she couldn't have smelled it or even a dead body and didn't know if something smelled bad. And the other lady was older, her sinuses were eroded from chronic sinus infections, she couldn't smell anything at all. The ironic thing about her was that she could wear any type of perfume and it smelled wonderful, even the cheap ones or ones I normally hated. She had a gift that way and it's too bad she couldn't have enjoyed the scent of perfumes herself, even though she loved the compliments. You might have some sinus problems, and sometimes other medical conditions might cause a temporary loss of smell.
