I'm pretty disgusted with Corel's Paint Shop Photo Pro X3 right now (it's very good at crashing unless you just like to view an image) and looking at options. CS4 is pretty expensive. So I went to C-net to read up on PSE8 and apparently crashing is a problem according to the users reviews.
Can you batch process with PSE8? How about running actions (scripts?)? I had the trial of PSE7 and I couldn't find those two things which put me off buying it.
Maybe I should just get Lightroom?
Trying not to spend a whole mortgage payment here.

No one's mentioned PSE 8 crashing in the Elements Yahoo Group. A lot of these kinds of problems have to do with particular machines and operating systems. (I wonder who beta tests these programs???) If you do a lot of batch processing, I'd say go with Lightroom. Elements has a batch processing function but it only allows some basic tweaking, name and file format changes. Elements runs actions (actions written for Elements and some Photoshop actions but not all because it lacks some Photoshop functions) but doesn't allow users to record actions. Lightroom would be your best bet.
I find PSE8 works just fine on my Mac OSX. Does have a few sticky parts in some of the 'filters' area but they are minimal.
Maybe a small upgrade on your computer to help with the load?
Good luck!
