Well, if it really is showing 190 mbs of RAM, you probably have a really old computer. That would be the equivalent of 3X64 Mb sticks of RAM and they don't come that small anymore.
If you are really interested in buying more RAM, you can give this site a try:

I'm not sure how well that scanner will work on such an old system, but it can't hurt to try!
Good luck!
If you use the program CPU-z, it will show you what RAM modules you have installed, including their type, speed, and capacity. It will also show the amount of slots you have (you don't even need to open your computer first). You can make upgrade decisions based upon this information. 192 MB is a very low number for windows XP. Anywhere from 512 MB to 2 GB is the reccomended number for decent performance.
Dude, I'm passing the same problem. Here's my story:
I got an Acer Aspire 5315 with webcam, microphone, Office 2007 and Acer Arcade. It has an 80GB Hard Disk and 1 GB of RAM. After 3 months of music, pictures, movies and internet, my Laptop got so slow and people told me to upgrade my RAM. So I changed my RAM from 1 to 2 GB and it worked. Also I got an external hard drive of 500GB and emptied my stuff in it. I re-setup my existing hard drive with the option of changing optional space on hard drive to use it as RAM. I set the minimum of 201 MB and the maximum of 2000 MB. Slowpoke no more!
Most computer users have been trained that if you want more speed for your computer, then add more memory. Well, this is true, in certain circumstances. But for most of the times, it really is just bad files in your registry files. Corrupted or missing registry files can make your computer too slow.
The registry is a main part of your computer's Operating System. With time, as you use Windows and install and uninstall programs, your registry will get congested and full of errors. So your computer could slow down. So, if you can clean it up this problem can be solved.Sometimes you can speed computer up by 300%. To clean up registry,You can download a software called regsitry cleaner---Clean registry, remnant, corrupt files and temp files,history,cookies,etc.. This site:
http://www.speed-up-your-pc.com/
lists top 5 registry cleaner, you can download and scan for free.
Good luck!
Go to a computer store that knows about computers, not best buy or some crap store. Bring in your laptop and talk to them about ram. They can get you more and that will make your computer run faster, but also run a disk cleanup once in a while. start. programs, accessories, system tools, disk cleanup. click on your harddrive option and yes. then choose all of the options and click yes. This may take a while if you have not done it in a while so ya. enjoy :)
Ram is generally considered to be the "biggest bang for the buck" upgrade as it is not terribly expensive and generally gives good results.
It is not the only thing that will improve performance on your computer, but if you have less than 512MB and are running XP for instance, you will definitely be slower than you'd like.
Check the specs on your computer and find out what type of Ram that your motherboard will support and buy as much as it will support or you can afford. Then you will be in business. I recommend crucial.com, they have a nice applet that helps the user determine what type of ram to purchase for their particular model.
ohh yeah totally buy a 1mb ram stick which depending on your laptop will differ in price. definitly call a friend who knows this stuff and have them put it in. we did this to a laptop and it is a lot faster! it cost about $35 for the stick and a friend put it in. the reason i urge you have someone else put it in is because you dont want static electricity to fry your lappy and it to not work. also that person will know what to buy. if you go to a place just make sure its not to expenisve.
yeah you can buy ram chips and put them in your pc (you need to be able to take the cover/back off)
It helps you computer go faster if you only have one application open at a time
Check http://www.pcoptimizerprodownload.com/
With pc optimizer pro you can safely clean, repair and optimize your computer.
It will help improve your system performance.
Probably.
