Some friends of mine just told me last week that they don't have a lot of funds for christmas presents this year for their daughter. He's the sole breadwinner of the family, and she's trying to finish school so she can get a better job.
What kind of gift should I get for their baby girl? It needs to be fairly inexpensive, since I have a ton of people to give stuff too, and not alot of funds.. and the couple themselves are getting a bottle of wine.

Walmart and Kmart have a good selection of toys. There is a whole section just for around that age range.
Kids that age tend to like anything that makes noise. There are a lot of cheap ones ( under 10 dollars) like toy phones, or ones that sing songs...that you can get at the stores mentioned above!
My son loves books, he is also 9 months. Goodnight Sweet Butterflies is a great one and Goodnight Moon is another favorite, we read both every night. You can also hit second hand kids stores like Children's Orchard for inexpensive gently used toys. I got my son a playskool xylophone and a piano for $5 each, they are $10-12 new. He also loves balls so I picked up a soccer ball size colorful one at walmart for a few dollars.
All kids need lots of books. All the book stores have clearance sections with tons of great kid books that mommy and daddy can read to her. Right now she is probably getting ready to (or already is) start pulling up so something like a child shopping buggy is good to help promote cruising and walking.
Since the family is having tough times clothes are important. Babies grow a lot so get bigger sizes. Go to Walmart or Target.
If they have little funds then maybe some article of clothing for the child. Its not too expensive for you too. Just dont shop in the most expensive shop in town. lol.
how about some clothes?? blankets or diapers and wipes and just necessities.. a 9month old isn't really gonna remember this christmas so you could get by with buying necissaties.. happy shopping :)
I would say diaper, formula and wipes... They probably need those the most, and if you got them that they would have more to spend on toys for the baby.. could you image if mommy bought me diapers instead of toys....
to go personalization websites, such as personalizationmall.com. they have cute ideas, and it looks like you put alot of thought into it.
