does anyone know the dangers of having a tampon stuck inside too long?
I know it's gross, and oh my god it smells so bad. I can't get it out. At first I didnt know for sure if one was up there but just now I went to the bathroom and there was a piece of the tampon string on my pad. That would mean it's been up there for about a week. what should I do? someone please help and I dont need any rudeness, I'm already embarrased enough, thanks

get it out it can be very dangerous go to a doctor ASAP!!
The biggest danger is TSS (toxic shock syndrome), which is a life threatening bacterial infection. If a tampon is left inside for too long bacteria starts to breed. It's an extremely rare disease but you should still be cautious.
Symptoms include: high fever, vomiting/diarrhea, headaches, rashes, muscle aches, etc.
Just get it out ASAP.
You really shouldn't douche but in this case it may actually help..you could just use water and squirt it up there if you can reach it with your fingers or push it out.
In either case get it out as soon as you can, Toxic Shock Syndrome is life threatening (as I noticed someone else mentioned). If you cant, go to the emergency room, this has happened more times than you know. My friend actually went to pull hers out and the string popped off.
You can stick your fingers way deep inside and look for the left over cotton or douche all the stuff out from your vagina.
Or you can go see a gyno that will help remove the cotton that was left behind.
All in that order if nessecery. You will get a very bad infection if it doesn't come out. So lets start moving.
TSS is a risk. See a doctor if you can't remove it yourself.
