Recently me and my fiancee vacationed to the delaware seashore area and wanted to eat at a local seafood restaurant as good seafood is difficult to come by back home. However to our dismay all the seafood restaurants we tried had a sign on the door stating that the legal drinking age in delaware is 21, then went on to say "If you are under legal drinking age, Do Not Enter". First question is, does anyone know why we couldn't enjoy a simple meal of seafood even tho we had no intentions of drinking (we are underage so it was not in our plan to drink no matter where we went). Second is, is there anyone that could possibly get a picture of one of these signs because no one back home seems to believe us when we tell this story. The names of the two restaurants i remember off the top of my head are Crabby ***** Delaware and Jakes Seafood House, both in Rehoboth Beach on the coastal highway.
Update:Rose-first of all the insults arent necessary, second "Crabby *****" is the actual name of the restaurant so I dont get the "as you call it" after your title. And since its a high toursit are, mostly summer homes and hotels/motels, its pretty dumb if it is as you say "to keep idiot tourists out", thats losing alot of business". Also it was at more than one restaurant so we figured it was a law we were unaware of. And if you really are day manager as you say, you wouldnt be insulting possible future customers.
Update 3:shoredude- thank you, we werent sure. and like i said, we didnt want to stir up any trouble, at the one restaurant we started to go in but got some very unfriendly looks (im sure now it was just because we were obviously tourists). and I know the name is crabby dick's i just wasnt using the " ' " so it censored me...oops.

First of all the restaurant isn't called Craby *****. It's called Crabby Dick's.
Those signs are required by Delaware law on the front door of any establishment that serves alcohol and have been since I was a little kid (I'm almost 40 now). We take children all the time to restaurants with those signs. You should have at least opened the door and asked what the law is if you aren't sure.
The signs are there to keep idiot tourists like yourself out. You can come in and eat any time, take a chance in life once in a while and see what happens. If you were really concerned, the worst they would tell you is you can't come in, then you could ask the reason. It would have been fine if you'd have come in though, that is for the bar area. Glad you didn't come into my establishment, though, sounds like you don't have a lot going on upstairs.
Edit: Exactly, shoredude2 - correct on all acocunts, including the name. I think we are making the same point, you are just much more tactful than I chose to be - thank you for getting our point across. I think this asker just needs to grow up a bit, especially if she's getting married.
Common sense tells me that If you are there to dine and with no intentions of breaking the law (underage drinking) then the sign does not pertain to you!
Now, if you are carded just to enter the Restaurant , then you have every right to complain!
Maybe you were at the bar's door and not the main restaurant. You can email Crabby D*ck's at http://crabby-*****.com/#/contact-us/4534167254 and ask them if diners under 21 are not allowed.
