I am auditioning for a couple of college musical theatre programs and I need audition songs. I already have 3 picked out, but I want to ask a broad community if they are considered to be overdone or bad songs. My voice is a rich first soprano, best suited to classic soprano parts like Marian from the Music Man, Eliza from My Fair Lady, or even Maria from the Sound of Music or West Side Story.
"I have dreamed" The King and I
"The Beauty is" Light in the Piazza
"Only Love" The Scarlet Pimpernel
Are these over done or bad songs? Other suggestions are welcome.
Thanks!

I definitely don't think that those songs are all that over done and if I had to choose one out of the three that is I'd say Only Love. They're all from lesser known shows so I doubt there will be anyone else with the same audition song. I'm a coloratura mezzo so I'm a bit stuck on song reccomendations seeing as my range is lower than yours but I think you've picked three suitable songs already. Best of luck!
Sorry but Cabaret is overdone, I've seen it chosen time and time again because its such a show-stopping number, it's like how you wouldn't pick defying gravity as that's Idina's song don't do Cabaret and if you do don't pick the title song or 'Maybe This Time' as the recent glee feauture makes it incredibly popular with any theatre teen.
I don't think so, yet I'm not the best source because I'm not big on theatre, but if you can hit notes like Maria can and your worried about doing something overdone why don't you try a current song? Maybe a Christina Aguilera or Mariah Carey if thats acceptable. Best of luck! (:
