I am scheduled to have oral surgery in about two weeks. I am a 30 year old male, am about 6 feet tall, and weigh about 170 pounds. I went to see a dentist today and the person assisting her took my blood pressure. I had eaten about two hours before. My blood pressure was 108/61 with a heart rate of 71. The dentist said "Oh you're just showing off now."
That made me curious. What do those numbers mean, and are those numbers very good? What would be a good range for those numbers, and what would be ideal? What would be too high and what would be too low?
Thanks.

That blood pressure is actually really low. Your 30 so your Systolic BP should be around 130 (120/80 is only the average for teen / young adult. To figure your normal systolic take your age and add it to 100 if your male and 90 for females. Its only accurate up until about 40).
If you have not been sick and not displaying any symptoms then it sounds like its user error. How did the assistant take the BP? Was it with a cuff and stethoscope or did they hook you up to a machine? I don't take too much stock in what dental assistants tell me when it comes to BP and vitals simply because they don't do it every day.
If you have a friend or relative who is an EMT or nurse then have them take it. Otherwise, go to a place such as Walgreens or a pharmacy and they should be able to check it for you for free. I would rely on that reading more than a dental assistant.
Unless your a marathon runner that reading is way too low for some one of your age and height.
Thats a very good blood pressure!! 120/90 is average. 108/61 is excellent my friend!! I would say too low would be top number less than 90 and bottom less than 40. Too high would be over 150 and bottom over 100. Hope this helps you
Yes, you do have a lower heart rate, and you shouldn't go over 130 beats...that's what my Dr. said. If you want to lower your blood pressure naturally, take CQ 10, and 1 Fish Oil a day works wonders...it did for me.
Yes at that rate its good
Do not be afraid to ask next time, because now I would like to know.
