1.John Barleycorn Must Die...all songs..Stevie's jazz roots etc..."Empty Pages"..(Jims' readings of Jungian philosophy)>"Stranger To Himself"..
2.Traffic '2'...40,000 Headmen,No Time To Live,Who Knows What Tomorrow may Bring?etc etc..The First Classic!
3.Low Spark of High-Heeled Boys...Buried Treasure,Low Spark etc..written about the 'glam boys'..Mott,Bolan et al..
4.Last Exit..one side live at Fillmore West..studio side..Shanghai Noodle Factory,Withering Tree,Medicated Goo etc
5.Dear Mr. Fantasy..title track with Steve on guitar,Smiling Phases etc...No Face,No Name,No Number,Coloured Rain..
6.Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory..again Steve on guitar, rocking, etc
7.On The Road..live double..whole sides taken up with stoned jams....
8.Welcome To The Canteen..pretty tired live single album..hits,so to speak...with Ric Grech on bass..
...Stevie played a monster B-3 Hammond backing Jimi on Voodoo Chile jam,Chris Wood played flute on 1984 and Dave Mason played acoustic guitar on the studio single All Along The Watchtower..all featuring on "Electric LadyLand".
There is also a Great DVD&CD from a memorial concert for Jim Capaldi (RIP),like Chris, with many friends dropping in for the occasion Jim was a Great lyricist in tandem with Steve's music. Great,Great Band!...
I love Traffic. Just a couple of weeks ago I saw Steve Winwood open for Tom Petty. He still has a magnificent voice. I've never really liked much of his solo work, but he played a few songs from his latest album Nine Lives and they were really good...I think I'm going to get it.
Favorite album? Probably their self-titled..or, The Low Sparks Of High Heeled Boys. Songs? Many A Mile To Freedom, Withering Tree, Stranger To Himself, Who Knows What Tomorrow Might Bring, Shoot Out At The Fantasy Factory, Smiling Phases and many, many more.
A lot of 60's stuff was good, however--like how I hated Zeppelin for the most part except for 2 songs that most people aren't into, but loved some band members of their's work in Yardbirds & the Firm besides Robert Plant solo--like that example it's the same way. I liked a little bit of Steve Winwood's solo stuff, but Traffic naah, but a group Steve Winwood was in before then I loved music of especially, which was Spencer Davis Group. Which like Lyres & some groups had a lotta soul in their music. In fact, back then Steve Winwood almost sounded like a brother. Aside from Beastie Boys & Lyres & a few here & there most white guys just don't have the right voice to do that especially with a soul/r & b sound & still have jammin music especially--know what I mean?
john barelycorn is great, i also like low spark of high heeled boys and mr. fantasy.
also i have this incredible bootleg of traffic with jimi hendrix, i dont know where it came from, but it is awesome and i thank the great gods of music sharing for sending it to me.
