About a week ago, I was having sex and had raised my legs a bit and in the middle of this I heard a sort of cracking noise at the joint between my thigh and hip. I didn't react to this as bones sometimes make those sorts of noises, but then it made this horrible grinding noise. It didn't hurt at the time, although it wasn't pleasant.
Anyway, so over the last couple of days it has started hurting quite a bit. I think this is because I've done a lot of walking recently, but obviously something is not quite right if it hurts like this just from walking especially as I've never had problems with hip pain before. Could I have seriously damaged my joint? Is it worth going to the doctor's or would resting it be enough? I'm a little wary about going to see the doctor because I don't want to explain how it happened, but at the same time I obviously don't want to risk it getting worse!
Update:Thought I should add that I'm only 22, and I'm not an athletic person or anything like that so I doubt it's caused by 'wear and tear', although I could be wrong of course!

Not exercising can weaken the ligaments that support your joints and can actually cause more problems than the "wear and tear" you might see with athletes.
It sounds like you strained soft tissue in your hip.
I recommend seeing a physiotherapist or doing some sort of strengthening/stretching exercise such as pilates, otherwise this will continue to get worse.
if you do not have any sort of swelling, redness or numbness in the area of your hip where you feel the pain, then try these which are relatively safe.
1. voveran tab (three times a day for two to three days). it gives relief (diclofenac sodium tablets)
2. local application of voveran gel
3. do not stress for atleast three days.
if this does not work, see a doctor.
