I have always been a careful email user. I filled out ONE survey, thinking it was a legitimate one and that I could actually be of service by answering the questions, and I immediately began to receive tons of spam. I've NEVER had a spam problem before. I don't want to change my email address, but I'm getting tired of having to go through 100 emails a day to see which ones are from friendlies. I've unsubscribed and I've used the SPAM button, but it's not even slightly slowing the tide. Any ideas? Or am I gonna have to suck it up and get a new email address?

Spam is something we all have to deal with, it's a fact of everyday internet life. Getting a new email address will only temporaily solve your spam problem. It would just be a matter of time before that email address started getting spam also.
I assume, since you are asking this question in the Yahoo Mail catagory, you are talking about Yahoo Mail.
Make sure you have SpamGuard turned on. Depending upon how you have it set-up, it will redirect 95% of any spam directly to your "bulk" mail folder. For the other 5% that slips by into your inbox, just do what you have been doing, place a check mark next to the spam mail and click the spam button.
Spam is computer generated, meaning it is sent out to random email addresses. When you open or reply to one, it sends a message to the sender that they have "hit" a active email address. Then you will get more spam.
The worse thing you can do is try to "unsubscribe" to any unsolicited emails. Doing that just gets you more.
Don't give up, just keep clicking.
you're getting lots or repeats cuz they're not originating from the same e-amil address, instead, whats happening is, someone sent you and email once, with a picture, any atachment, or sometimes blank. And as soon as you open it, even if you didnt open the pic, or click the link or w/e, they'd know that theres a person thats using the email, meaning the email is active...Which on the other hand means that they can send you spam hoping that you would click on one. That why you should never Post your email online(ex..Forums, Registrations, Freenewsletter...etv..)its all not good... My advice, Create a new Yahoo, hotmail, Gmail (i sent you an invite if you want), and dont worry about the current email, cuz i think its gona be a real pain in the A** if you dont want to be spammed anymore... Good luck, hope a helped a little
Check out the bayesian spam filter. My husband gets Popular Science magazine and I flip through them now and then. Several years ago, I ran across this article about a free spam filter. We downloaded it on our home computer and also our work computers and it works great. I even put it on my boss's computer! It learns which mail is "friendly" and which ones you are not interested in. Pretty accurate. It does not delete the spam, but puts it in its own folder so you can check through it quickly before deleting permanently. Eventually, your life will be pretty much spam free. Check it out. You will be glad you did. The instructions are fairly easy to follow.
Hi it's a problem we all have. The only solution I have found is to have a seperate e-mail address which I only give to trusted contacts. I change this every so often. It stops the spam for a while at least. I If you allow e-mail on Yahoo answers anyone can get your address. Good luck and hope this helps.
