The front R&L channels in your surround system are for "front effects" and the dialog is designed to be delivered by the center channel when you have your system in "surround mode".

You need to refer to your owner's manual and set the surround mode to incorporate the center channel. If you don't have a center channel, then set the surround mode to (down-mix the surround into) two-channel stereo.

See if there is a control on your DVD player to adjust the dynamic range. If the dynamic range (the ratio between the quiet passages and the loud passages of music)is on high or full turn it down to medium or low to make the quieter parts louder and the louder parts quieter.If this does not work adjust the volume of the center speaker to match the two front ones or slightly louder . Or turn the two front ones down.

Most receivers have a built in equalizer and listening modes to enhance you viewing/listening pleasure. It sound like you first need to tune the system to your sitting area ( the center is probably set to low because retailers want the booms and explosions to draw you to them, one way to make a crap system sell!) then experiment with the different modes to see what you like.

Each speaker in your Home Theater has its very OWN volume control...The CENTER speaker is the one that plays all the DIALOG...Turn that one up to hear the talking better...Experiment with the volume for the REAR and SUB-WOOFER, too...You might be surprised what you find.
