Just one more story.
Note: I am NOT saying that all religious people are evil or that all Muslims are evil, etc. I just want to hear an explanation from those people who explain away any religiously motivated violence as being caused by people who were already violent by nature, and would have committed their crimes regardless of their belief.
Update:@ Adam (Mad Scientist) backup
"people choose to do these actions based on what THEY believe."
That's right. And what these people who stoned the little girl to death believed was that their god commanded them to do it.
Update 3:@ Autumn
The punishment of stoning for adultery comes from the Hadith.
"If they were what you seem to believe all Muslims are like..."
In fact, I explicitly stated in the question that I was not generalizing all Muslims.

First off, it was in Somalia, which doesn't even fall under the category of a state because it's in complete anarchy. Secondly, if they are following Islam, it's their own extremist sect, since even Islam doesn't condone violence in any of its major sects. Thus, I'd say this instance was probably more of a political ploy to keep the people there under the militia's control (if people can't report crimes without dying, it makes it seem as they should just mind their own business for fear of death).
And no one ever said that people don't attribute their violence to religion (Charlemagne beheaded 4500 Saxons for not converting to Christianity), but, nowadays at least, all the major world religions support peace rather than violence.
I'm both Somali and Muslim so maybe I can bring a different perspective to this.
I don't think you realize that 99% of Somalis are Muslim. It is very rare to see a non-Muslim Somali. I've never known a single non-Muslim Somali in my life - I've only ever heard of one.
What happened was the girl was raped, her father reported the rape hoping that the rapist would be punished, not that his daughter would be killed in such a gruesome way. Both the father and his daughter are Muslim. Are they at fault for what brought them misery? If they were what you seem to believe all Muslims are like, would they not have hoped for that stoning to take place? And if so, why is the father so upset after what happened to his daughter? I'm not sure if the article - or any article online - discusses how hurt the girl's father was. Somalis seem to have large networks. Sometimes I hear about families I'm barely related to or who are in my clan. So I heard about how hurt he is from people who know the family in Somalia.
This was not a religiously motivated action. If you believe that it is, then feel free to post a quote from the Noble Quran that justifies the murder of a rape victim. If you can't, then such a notion is not supported by the religion. People do not have the power to change Islam. The word Islam literally means submission to God and we submit to God by following the Quran. No one has the power to change the Quran which is protected by God. Muslims are very particular about keeping the Quran in the form it was originally in. In fact, according to the Noble Quran, there is a punishment for those who accuse innocent women, like that girl.
"Surely those who accuse chaste believing women, unaware (of the evil), are cursed in this world and the hereafter, and they shall have a grievous chastisement." 24:23
And no, I'm not simply "explaining away any religiously motivated violence". You provided no information from the Quran that proves that it is condoned in Islam. The fact is that it is not acceptable and God will judge those who committed this crime. Again, if you want to confirm your belief that it is condoned in Islam, find a verse in the Quran that tells believers to punish innocent women or rape victims. You won't find any such verse.
Some are very abrasive closer to different religions real. But the equal will also be stated with something. Some of the matters asopted would possibly or maynot be real, noone alive is aware of. Therefore it's not relevant. All that does subject is how each and every man or woman perspectives their ideals and coexist with society. N all people won't get alongside, however we are not able to rely all of them to be bigots both.
religion cant make a person do a damn thing
people choose to do these actions based on what THEY believe.
it is the individual and the society, not the religion
but it is not the religion that caused them to act on it.
And people wonder why religion gets picked on and opposed.
K so that is some messed up ****. sometimes I really hate people.....
are you ready to stop making generalizations (aka weasel words)?
