Since you have to go back and forth to work and your pay may not cover the constant rise in your daily expenses are you feeling the squeeze? Or have you been a casuality from layoffs because companies are cutting back due to increased expenses? When you have to look for a job companies still won't tell you up front how much they pay when they know you couldn't afford to pay for the gas to even work for them let alone even go to the interview to find out they only pay minumum wage has this happended to you? Feel free to rant, you probably desevere to. What do you think we can do about it?

Simple answer: NO.
I have gone back to some prudent advice from my Economics Professor Marcoux. He lived through the depression and said when the price of "beef" got out of reach for his family, his father decided to begin eating MORE chicken and pork. When enough Americans STOPPED buying beef, the prices "returned to affordable" rates.
So, I sold my SECOND car. No more auto insurance. No more maintenance for the SECOND auto. No more GASOLINE to buy for the SECOND auto. I took my bicycle out of storage and do MOST of my RIDING in such. When I have to go downtown, I use the Metro! What a concept!
I began that in 2006. In the last 2 years I have saved over $25,000 by NOT having a second vehicle. We drive the ONLY vehicle just when we have to LEAVE town on trips. Otherwise, we have adjusted. If more Americans would do that, the oil prices will return to "affordable". Doctor Marcoux made a convert out of me (Washburn University 1971).
I have cut back my driving by about 80%. I found a job closer to my home and a daycare closer to my home.
The constant rise in prices has forced me to cut back on some things, but we are making due. Instead of my husband and I buying lunch at work everyday, I make lunches for us. The cost is then $16 total for the week for both of us, versus us spending $50 a week total for lunch.
The same thing goes for dinner, I now only go shopping once a week and have it spelled out what we will be eating for dinner each night and what we need - this cuts down on wasting a lot of money on things we don't need.
I think that "wasting" in general was a big money eater in our house. So when we think about how to not waste, the savings really start to add up. Not only are we saving money by not using as much gas, but I save money at the grocery store, with my utilities, etc because we are being more mindful.
Gas is so expensive I have to ride my bicycle to the edge...
Actually, I use public transportation to go to work and live in an area where stores, parks, and the library are close by, so I only use a few gallons of gas a week and the high prices haven't affected me much
Oh yes! I'm a senior, and I was thinking about getting a car. But no way now!!! My family has cut back on tons of things from going places to the food we eat. Right now it's $3.91, but they're saying it will be around $4.05 by the end of the week. It's ridiculous! The whole economy sucks right now. And I'm trying to get a little job, and nobody is hiring. I hate to say it, but the gov't totally screwed everyone, in every class. And they're just getting richer. It's so wrong on so many levels.
how can someone seriously raise a family with the gas prices so damn high.........the electric bills that are crazy ........hell u have to decide to pay the rent so u can keep a roof above ur childrens heads or pay the electric bill to keep the lights on for them and then to top it off u have to put gas in your vechile so u can get back and forth to work to have the money to do those things......i seriously hope the next president will be a democrat so we actually have someone in office who cares about the working class citizens. im tired of telling my kids i cant afford something just because i have to pay bills and put gas in the van ........its crazy
Not really because I don't drive a veichle and by the time im old enough too their prices will probale drop or a new type of fuel will take it's place like a car that drives on air and water.
P.S. - That would be sweet
We can do nothing about it and it's going to get more expensive. It certainly will not get any cheaper.
We just have to learn to be more frugal. This is going to hurt a lot of businesses when we stop spending money.
More people will get laid off and it will get worse before it gets better.
Find a secure job now and make yourself invaluable to your employer so someone else will get laid off and not you.
That's the way it is.
